Companies hiring for at home work

With increasing pressure to maintain margins, companies are looking at different means to satisfy shareholders.  The concept of companies hiring employees who will work out of their homes is not uncommon.  This is possible only in the service industry where employees working out of their homes can deliver the work done over the Internet. The work can be delivered over a dedicated network, or by File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or even simple mails. Now let us see how this new concept helps both the employers and the employees.

Let us take the case of the employees first.  The service industry especially the Information Technology and the Business Process Outsourcing Industry brought a great deal of change in the way that jobs are delivered. Employees nowadays prefer to work flexible working hours and companies are also encouraging such working cultures.  A step further to this is work at home. This is an interesting concept, where companies are providing all infrastructure facilities to employees such as Laptops and broadband Internet connections and encouraging them to work out of their own homes. This is advantageous to the employees as it helps them to maintain a fine balance between their professional and personal lives. Female employees are the ones who have benefited the maximum from this culture. They can look after the family and also deliver the work that is expected out of them. There are certain terms and conditions that employees need to follow when they are availing of the work out of home facility. Some of them are you need to be an average or good performer so that you do not need to be supervised on a constant basis. You need to be at a certain grade to avail the work out of home facility and whenever required you have to come to the office. As a result of this policy companies are seeing a decrease in the attrition rate and employee satisfaction levels are increasing. European and American companies have moved on fast with this culture and Asian companies are slowly catching up.

For the male employee also, this opportunity to work out of home gives opportunities to handle many household chores which otherwise he would have to take time out of office and complete. This may include going to the bank or to his car insurance company.  It has been seen that the productivity levels of employees have also moved up the curve because of the work from home policies.  Employees are able to deliver more because of they have the liberty to work according to their own schedules.  HR consultants are predicting that this working culture is here to stay and slowly companies will have a workforce where a substantial percentage of the workforce will work out of their homes.

The companies benefit economically by not having to invest in office space for the employees. As a result they are able to pay more to their employees.  Thus we see that this work culture is a win-win for both the employee and the employer.
